Mary was born in Hayes Middlesex. She was baptised Mary Shackle 26/11/1820 in Hayes. She married John Smoker 28/6/1846 Chiswick, Middlesex. They had 12 children. One of their sons, Alexander joined the army and eventually became the Chief Warden at the Tower of London.
