Alfred Edgar Willing was born in Torquay in 1886, a son of Robert Phillips Willing and Alice Mahala Callard. He died at the Battle of Loos on 30 September 1915. His brother Robert Phillips Willing is also on the monument. He was born in Abergavenny, Monmouthshire in 1893 and died at the Battle of the Somme on 1 July 1916.
