Born in Albania as the son of the French ambassador; in 1939 he was named as the French liaison officer with Field Marshal Montgomery (later of El Alamein); until 1940. He was captured in Holland and interned in Silesia; but escaped in 1945 and rejoined the Allied Forces as liaison officer to General Patton. AFter the war he had a distinguished displomatic career; and remained friends with Viscount Montgomery.
