Francis Edward Andrews was born on 4 June 1867 at South Stoke, Somerset. He joined the Royal Horse Artillery in 1889. He eventually became a Battery Sergeant Major before leaving the army to become Malaria Superintentent of Bombay. He died there after falling down a well on 29 September 1909. His burial record said it was an accident but family traditions says he was murdered. His widow Sarah eventually became Matron of the Military Family Hospital in Jutogh.
