This stone is for three people and has carved into the stone three coffins with their initails and the letter E underneath with a number JF has E27 RA has E28 and JI has E39 The stone then has Remember and Death at either side of the coffins Then reads In Memory Robert Armstrong aged 28 James Ingledew aged 39 and Joseph Fenison aged 27 Yrs who rin rest of this line illegible then lives October 11th 1812 by climing into a well at Marton [Died while] venturing into a well at Marton when it was filled with carbonic acid gas or fixed air From this unhappy accident let others take warning not to venture into wells without first trying whether a candle will burn If the candle burns to the bottom they may be entered with safety If it goes out human life cannot be sustained - Some of this story is illegible mainly from If the candle downwards
