John is descended from Mewburns of Marton and Ormesby in the Cleveland area of North Yorkshire and from the very successful farmer at Ingelby Hill, Robert Mewburn (1766-1840). John's father was William Henry of Blanchland. John's birth was registered in Q1 1864 at Northallerton. He became a telephone manager, working in Stoke-on-Trent and Coventry; married Rose Chambers in 1887 and had two children, Amy Gladys and Guy.
