Walter Groves Nurse was a fisherman, born 13th of April 1860 in Wivenhoe. He died on the 9th of February 1889 in The North Sea. He was one of seven men working on the Grimsby fishing smack British workman GY11 when it was wrecked in a storm, along with six other Grimsby smacks. The poem and folk song Three Score and Ten was written about the losses in the storm that day.
