Elizabeth Smyth was the daughter of James Smyth of Tinny Park; County Wicklow in Ireland; and the sister of Sir Skeffington Smyth Bt MP. She was the 2nd wife of Charles-Rosalie de Rohan-Chabot; Comte de Jarnac and Vicomte de Chabot. They had two wedding ceremonies; in Ireland in 1776; and in the château at Jarnac in 1777. His father was responsible fot the imprisonment of Voltaire in the Bastille.
