A professional army officer who served as botha staff officer and on active service on the front in WW1; and was mentioned in despatches after the battle of Montdidier. After the war he served on the staff of Marshal Pétain in 1929. he was named general in 1933; and given command of the 14th Infantry Division in 1936. In January 1940 he commanded the 2nd Army Corps; and was killed during a German raid on French forces in Belgium at Nalinnes.
