Inscription: Ex-leading torpedoman of the British navy. According to the British National Archives; he was born in Bethnal Green in London in 1885. NB In 2013; this grave was due to be respossessed. Father William Andrews b1829, mother Frances Spurgeon b1864 - common law partnership as William's father separated from wife Hannah Roe and never married Frances. Big age gap. Frances from a broken home where father James Neavesey spent most of his life in jail or transported for minor theft. Frances's mother was Mary Ann Carver Spurgeon. William had two brothers, Louis and Andrew, both killed in WW1, and one sister Florence who married a George Wade. Probably one more sister Lily who died as an infant. William signed up to the Navy in 1903 and remained in the Navy until 1919. He died in France at Boulevard Victor Hugo 63, Neuilly sur Seine, which is the American Hospital, Paris. Occupation was valet de chambre - French death records have his home at Lowestoft and parents with their surnames reversed. He was brought up with William as his father but actual father may have been a Garbutt. Circumstances of death unknown.
