Edward married secondly Mary Dorothea Barclay, on 15th September 1897 at Hoddesdon, Hertfordshire. They went immediately to take up a missionary post in South India but returned home the following March ready for the birth of Ned. On the way home the ship on which they were travelling, the P&O s.s. China, went aground on the Island of Perim in the Red Sea. They arrived in London ten days later with the clothes they stood up in plus three stuffed crocodiles and a stuffed iguana. Regrettably Edward died two years later while they were on holiday in Scotland with the Barclay Family in a cycling accident. Edward is buried in this grave together with his two wives and also the ashes of his second son, Sandy.
