13/04/1925 Lt Col EA Winter was my Grandfather on my Mother's side. He was born in Northampton and lived in Bewdley, Worcestershire. In civilian life he worked as an Inspector with Customs and Excise. He joined the Royal Fusiliers at the start of WW1 and saw service in France, particularly on the Somme where at one point he was Batallion Commander due to the death of his senior officers. He suffered from gas poisining and was never very well on his return to the UK and he died in a Militauy Hospital in Cleethorpes in 1925.
