7th June 1931. James Reid lived at 110 Craigton Place, Winchburgh. He was the son of an inn keeper and cab proprietor from Edinburgh(Stephenson Reid). He reported that he was born in Liberton in 1855 however no record has yet been found. He met his wife Martha in Gateshead after leaving the merchant navy. Story has it he was a stowaway when young and also survived a shipwreck off the coast of Mexico. He was a keen local artist and taxidermist. He and his wife were reported in the local papers in 1925 when they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary. A rare event then as many couples died before making that milestone in a marriage. They had ten children but only eight survived. Davie Gibson who was a professional footballer for Aston Villa and Leicester City in the 60's is one of their great grandchildren. James died of acute bronchitis.
