Joanna Wynne Daly was the eldest daughter of His Excellency Sir Dominick Daly, (1798-1868), Governor-in-Chief of South Australia and Caroline Maria Gore, (1801-1872). Joanna was born April 1830 in Quebec, Canada, and baptised the following month at Anglican Cathedral Holy Trinity. Joanna married John Souttar, widow, on 9 August 1866 at Holy Trinity Church, Adelaide, South Australia. Their daughter, Anna Maria Gore Souttar was born on 16 October 1868 at Gleneig, South Australia.
