Born 24 Jan 1818 in London, son of Rev Cornelius Neale MA and Susann Good. Educated privately and at Sherborne school followed by Trinity College Cambridge. Winner of the Seatonian prize for poetry (religious) at least six times. Founder of Cambridge Camden Society. Considered one of the formost classicists of his time. Member of the Oxford Movement. Best known for the many ancient Hymns which he translated and some of his own composition including 'Good King Wenceslas'. Writer of many books mainly religious including 'A History of the Eastern Church'. Founded the Community of St Margaret at East Grinstead, an Anglican Convent and schools.Suffered from ill health and was Warden of Sackville College, East Grinstead, almshouses for the elderly. Married 1842 Sarah Norman Webster. He died 5th August 1866. There is a window depicting him in Chichester Cathedral
