From 1863 to 1896 held senior appointments in various police departments (Punjab, Berar and Hyderabad). In 1895 was a Colonel in the India Staff Corps. May 1895 appointed Companion of the Indian Empire. Retired 1896. 1911 census is living at Downfold, Albury Road, Guildford, Surrey. At some time during retirement serves as Mayor of Guildford.
