I believe that the burial year given is incorrect and should be 1837. The church register gives the date of death has 9 April 1837. There is also a transcription of the monumental inscription in Monumental Inscriptions in St Cuthbert's Churchyard, Edinburgh (Older Portion), compiled by John Smith and published by the Scottish Record Society, Edinburgh, 1915.
