John Spurling was born in the Nacton Workhouse, Nacton, Suffolk, on the 15th Feb. 1847. His mother was Mary Ann Spurling (father unknown). John married Sarah Pyatt on the 14th Oct. 1870 at St. Mary's, Martlesham, Suffolk. He was a farm labourer for all of his working life. He died on the 11th June 1935 at No 1 Top Street, Martlesham. Sarah Spurling died on the 22nd July 1932 aged 86 and is buried with John.
