Jane was born in Norton Subcourse, Norfolk on 15 February 1811, but lived in Lowestoft all her adult life. She never married, and she and an older sister, Margaret, ran a school in the town. Later, two nieces, Mary Anne and Emily Sarah lived with her, and are also buried in this Graveyard.
