She was born in Manchester on 14 Oct 1918, and like myself, became a school teacher. In 1945, she landed a job at Durban Girls'College. In 1946 she married Captain Ian Gillies in Mogadishu, Somalia. She returned to the UK in 1949 and lived in Galashiels, Scotland, and later Silverdale, where she died on 20 Aug 1982.
