Reasons why the image for this memorial was requested

Thomas Thornton was a sea captain ancestor of mine. He was orphaned at the age of 11. He was brought up by a family called Edmundson in Fleetwood. He qualified as a master seaman in 1868!?? I know his wife Rebecca died shortly after the birth of their only child, Edith Annie. As the death is neither registered at All Hallows or In the BMD's for 1876, I would dearly love to be able to read the full inscription. Best regards, Colin Gisborne, Sunny New Zealand.

I am researching Fleetwood families from Victorian times and have added them all onto one tree. Any photographs that I can get is more help than you can imagine because of the details that they contain. Thanking you in advance, and acknowledgement will be given on the tree.
