Reasons why the image for this memorial was requested

Until a few days ago, I knew almost nothing about Alexander who was my grandfather's elder brother, except that he was born in Stonehaven, Scotland in 1850, married Alice Johnston and died in Ceylon in 1904. I now know that he was Secretary to the Ceylon Planters' Association for over 20 (and perhaps 29?) years and lived at Uplands. I should love to find out more!
