They had married in 1924. They had two children, Honor Shirley (1925-1989) and Ralph Hamed (1926-1958), before Shirley was widowed in 1928. Her second husband was Harold Edward Sutherland Stiven M.D. (1884-1956) the eldest son of Edward William Flemyng Stiven (1851-1902) of Harrow. From the census records it seems more likely that Shirley was born in 1905 and not as her later family thought.
