Reasons why the image for this memorial was requested

Thomas Mayer Pike is the oldest son of Purbeck Clay merchant John William Pike and Mary Mayer. i am trying to find out what he did during his life. He was Orphaned when his mother died in Child birth and his father died 2 years later. All the children were give good education Oxbridge and all inherited large sums whent they reached adulthood. I don't understand why he died in Argyll and was buried in Epsom. I know he was a keen Ornithologist but not much more.

I am writing a book on Purbeck Ball Clay Merchants and Thomas Mayer Pike was a son on John William Pike (A clay Merchant in Wareham, Dorset). Thomas's Grandfather was the Staffordshire Potter - Thomas Mayer who specialised in the American Market. Thomas Mayer Pike was an professional ornithologist. He lived off his forefather's wealth.
