Robert Hayword | 2 Apr 1867 | 72 | 1795 | first name on monument | Robert, the son of Robert and Anne Hayward was born on 21 May 1793 at Kelvedon Hall Farm, near Braxted, Essex. His parents were Quakers. On 16 September 1826 he married Harriet Anne Baldwin at Castle Hedingham in Essex. However, Harriet was not a Quaker and Robert withdrew from the Quaker community on his marriage. However, the birth of his five children and the death of two of these children were recorded in Quaker records as non-members. His wife Harriet died on 19 May 1835 age 34 years and was buried in the Friends Burial Ground at Colchester on 24 May 1835. She had been running a preparatory school for young gentlemen, at St Leonards Cottage, Maldon Road, Colchester, which Robert continued until 1841. His main business was an accountant and as a local agent for a variety of products such as sheep dipping products, manure and compost, and life and fire insurance. His home / office was located at St Johns Terrace, St Johns Street, Colchester and Robert died there on 2 April 1867. |
