Reasons why the image for this memorial was requested

Major Arthur Justin Ross DSO and bar commanded 'C' Flight of 14 Squadron RFC in Arabia during 1916/17. He was a personal friend of T.E. Lawrence (Lawrence of Arabia) and on returning to the UK Ross is believed to have donated his RFC wristwatch chronometer to Lawrence to assist in plotting his route across the desert to Akaba. Lawrence kept the watch for the rest of his life and it is now in the Omega museum in Switzerland. On his return to the UK Ross became an RFC flying instructor and he died in a crash near Thetford together with his pupil.
