Reasons why the image for this memorial was requested

I am doing research for a friend, her GGG Grandfather was Samuel Randell, aka Mete Ranana. He was English and married a Maori lady. I'm not sure if this is the right Samuel Randell. I can tell you he was born early 1800's and had several children. He lived in the Waikato area. He was apparently assisting the british and came to NZ from Australia with the British, supplying guns. He sided with the Maoris and they protected him, tatooing his body all over and told him not to speak.
