Sarah Lardner
1830331797first name on monumentThis is Sarah Lardner nee Sarah Darley Woodhead. She was the wife of Joseph Lardner, a comedian - a journeyman actor/dancer who began his career in London performing at the Sans Pareil Theatre in the Strand later the Adelphi. She too was on the stage and they travelled Colne, Clitheroe, Whitby and Scarborough. Joseph went on to work at the Sunderland theatre and was also a dance master. He died in a drowning accident on the River Wear in 1833 - so his words on this memorial were quite prophetic. They had a child born in Scarborough in 1830 called Hannah Mary Lardner who died soon after.

Reasons why the image for this memorial was requested

This could be my 4 x great grandmother Sarah Darley Woodhead who married Joseph Lardner in 1821 at Colne Lancs. Joseph died in a drowning accident in Sunderland in 1833 but I think she may have died in 1830 in Scarborough as their last child was born and died in Scarborough in 1830 called Hannah Mary Lardner. He was planning to re-marry in 1833 but died on the day before his wedding day - leaving 4 orphaned children. Grateful in case the larger image gives a birth date so that I can search for Sarah Darley Woodhead. Sincere thanks. Regards, Paul.
