Reasons why the image for this memorial was requested

William Auld is a Great Great Great Uncle. I am descended through is brother Robert Auld. I don't think William and his wife Isabella Scott had any children. I would love to own one of William's clocks.
(requested on 03 02 2016)
I have 2 clocks made by Thomas Reid, watch & clockmaker, partners with Auld. One is a musical bracket clock made in 1795 and referenced in Mr. Reid's celebrated book "Treatice on Clock and Watch Making", and the other is a long case clock from approximately 1810-1815. I understand that there is a fond reference made to Mr. Reid (I beleive he married Mr Auld's widow) on the monument. I have always wanted to know what the inscription stated. Many Thanks

I am an avid clock collector and William Auld is a renowned maker along with his more famous partner, Mr Thomas Reid, who is also buried (as I understand it) in the Auld family plot. Mr Reid married William Auld's mother after she was widowed and Mr Auld was taken as an apprentice by Mr Reid and then made a partner in their thriving Edinburgh business. Mr Reid is most notably recognized as the premier Scottish Clockmaker of his era and had written a well respected "Treatise on Clock and Watch Making" which has gone through numerous publications. The long case clock I have, I obtained in England and was made circa 1815 and I then obtained a bracket clock (from an owner in Australia)by Mr Reid made in 1795 and so inscribed on the back plate. There is a book entitled (Old Scottish Clock Makers)which references the monument center panel devoted to Mr Reid and his accomplishments as a clock and watchmaker. This book also mentions that the monument is eroding and the inscription ios fading. I would greatly appreciate it if you would be able to send me what photos you have. I am studying the life of Thomas Reid for a essay which I shall be writing next month. I have several of his clocks and am in awe of the quality of the movements.

I am researching the Auld families from Midlothian. Records held by the Burial Grounds Office, Mortonhall Crematorium, Edinburgh indicate that this Lair was originally purchased by Robert Auld on 21 March 1814, adding another piece to the Auld puzzle.

I have 2 clocks made by Thomas Reid in 1795 and 1805
