1927 first name on monumentRev Thomas Charles Skeggs was born on 10 May 1852 in London and died on 25 September 1927 at the Home of St Barnabas, Dormans, Lingfield, Surrey, aged 75. In 1879 he was Church of England Curate at St Thomas and then St Ambrose, Pendleton,Lancashire. Then in 1885 became Consular Chaplain in Marseilles,France & finally in 1900 was appointed Chaplain at the Church of the Holy Cross (Anglican Church) in Palermo,Sicily for 26 years, after which he returned to England.

She married her guardian Alexander Stead in March 1878,who died in 1896. They had 2 children who both died young.She may have asked to be buried next to her brother Tom and sister-in-law Minnie who coincidentally also died in the same month of November 1939.
Mary Elliott (Minnie) Skeggs
1939 wife of Thomas Charles SkeggsMinnie was born on 7 October 1857 in Stroud, Glos, the daughter of James Stephens who was the Headmaster of Tattenhall Boarding School for 20 years.She married Rev Tom Skeggs in 1879 and lived with her husband in Marseilles and Palermo until her husband death in 1927. The couple were childless but they became guardians for the three sons of Tom's widowed sister Ruby Skeggs. She died on 13 November 1939 in Birkenhead. She is buried alongside her beloved Tom.
