Archibald William Woodburn was the son of Alexander Woodburn and Eliza Young Howison. He was born at Poona, Maharashtra, India on 27 Nov 1857. His father was a Major-General in the Bombay Army. He was educated at Clifton College, Bristol and later was Assistant Manager and Secretary to Messrs C.T.Hook and Company, Snodland Paper Mills, Kent, England. Archibald married Ethel May Trevenen Holland in London 1911. After the death of his wife and infant daughter, Archibald lived with his unmarried sister Eliza in Edinburgh. He died at 88 Leamington Terrace, Edinburgh on 22 Apr 1939.
