Reasons why the image for this memorial was requested

Captain James Marshall McLaren of the Gordon Highlanders, mother Mr's W. G. McLaren, was one the original benefactors' to the Scottish Naval Military Veterans Residence [now Scottish Veterans Residence - Whitefoord House, Canongate]. I am currently assisting our Public Relations officer to compile a history of Capt. McLaren and the family re: a memorial to be submitted to Scottish War Memorial. We are also interested in any sub-lateral genealogical links we can uncover - beyond those quoted in Burke's peerage.
