Introduction

This page contains a list of all the entries for the maiden name HUNTER that are held within the Gravestone Photographic Resource online database. It is quite likely that there are also entries available for alternative spellings of this name. It is very easy for you to check to see if there are any alternative spellings: you just need to look at the page that shows all the names listed under the starting letter (H in this case) of the maiden name you are interested in.

If you click on a particular name or GPR reference number above you will see details of what information is held for that particular person. If there is an image available then you will be able to order a free copy of it.

If you click on a particular church, parish or town name above then you will see details of all the grave monument images that are available for that particular location.

Please note that all ages and dates of birth in red have been calculated and are probably not on the monument.

You should treat the calculated dates of birth with caution as the ages given on monuments are often inaccurate. The dates and ages on many monuments are also often hard to read. It is therefore important to use the dates as guides as they may be incorrect.

The same person may appear many times in the above list. This is because a person can easily be listed on many different monuments. For instance, a person could be listed on their own grave as well as on the gravestone monuments of their children and their spouse. Occasionally names will be duplicated because the monument has in error been photographed and indexed twice.

Where a relationship is shown as unknown, this usually means that parts of the monument are illegible and relationship cannot be read.

Where no relationship is given this means that this is normally the first name on the monument. All the relationships on any particular monument relate to this first named individual.

In most cases images are available. However sometimes they will unavailable. Often this is because although images have been taken they were unfortunately lost when the resource suffered a major computer fault and not all the images could be recovered.

Great Project
Since thanks for your wonderful project. The photo you supplied has been very useful to my research. The gravestone is actually at a church I used to attend as a girl guide many years ago but I had no idea it was relevant to me. Strange world, eh?

Thank you very much for your hard work and this website. I have been researching my family tree for years now and although I knew these graves were there I have not had the opportunity to visit them as I live a long way away. Thank you 😊

Hunters of Blackness(Dundee) & Balskelly ( Parish of Barry)
Thank you for the photograph. Hunter is a common name in Forfarshire known correctly as the County of Angus. Alexander Hunter bought the lands of Balskelly in 1810, it seems he was known as one of the Hunters of Blackness. These Hunters are a cadet family of the Hunters of Burnside. Any information would be helpful- Kind Regards Brian.

I stumbled across this web site whilst researching family history for John Lees Hunter and was delighted with the prompt and efficient service when I received a photo image of his grave stone which included details of his parent's names.

Thanks!
The information you provided was very useful and most helpful. I was able to see the larger version of the monument for the Hunter family and their descendants - in Dean Cemetery 2b, Edinburgh, Scotland. I appreciate the information you sent me, too. Regards, Cathy
