Introduction

This page contains a list of all the entries for the family name KEMP that are held within the Gravestone Photographic Resource online database.

A family name is where there is a surname as the last name of the forenames. This was a common practice before the middle of the 20th century.

It is quite likely that there are also entries available for alternative spellings of this name. It is very easy for you to check to see if there are any alternative spellings: you just need to look at the page that shows all the names listed under the starting letter (K in this case) of the surname you are interested in.

If you click on a particular name or GPR reference number above you will see details of what information is held for that particular grave monument. If there is an image available then you will be able to order a free copy of it.

If you click on a particular church, parish or town name above then you will see details of all the grave monument images that are available for that particular location.

Please note that all ages and dates of birth in red have been calculated and are probably not on the monument.

You should treat the calculated dates of birth with caution as the ages given on monuments are often inaccurate. The dates and ages on many monuments are also often hard to read. It is therefore important to use the dates as guides as they may be incorrect.

The same person may appear many times in the above list. This is because a person can easily be listed on many different monuments. For instance, a person could be listed on their own grave as well as on the gravestone monuments of their children and their spouse. Occasionally names will be duplicated because the monument has in error been photographed and indexed twice.

Where a relationship is shown as unknown, this usually means that parts of the monument are illegible and relationship cannot be read.

Where no relationship is given this means that this is normally the first name on the monument. All the relationships on any particular monument relate to this first named individual.

In most cases images are available. However sometimes they will unavailable. In many cases this is because although images have been taken they were unfortunately lost when the resource suffered a major computer fault and not all the images could be recovered.

Skinner Street Chapel, Poole, Dorset, England
Looking for photos for my ancestors in England, records show they were buried at Skinner Street Independent? I'm tried looking up skiner street but cant really get an real answer on where this place is, much less even photos of my families graves. I know my line of Kemps are supposedly buried all over Dorset,Poole. But right now I'm looking for just this one family George Kemp 8 Feb 1756-Jun 1845 , he was a deacon of the skinner street church for over 60 years his wife Sarah Kemp 19 Mar 1763-22 Nov 1813, So I'd like to find these two and anyother Kemps buried at this Skinner Street Church

This church in Skinner Street is still there as a United Reformed Church. But there is no graveyard associated with it-at least not now. Most non -conformist churches tended to use the local Private or Municipal Cemeteries. Poole actually has several Cemeteries I think the earliest was Poole Cemetery which is not fart from Skinner Street. The local Council should have a grave index -though they now tend to charge you for a search. I hope this helps.

Maria Kemp
Hello, Thank you for sending me the photo of my g-g-g-grandmother Maria Kemp's gravestone which I am pleased to confirm is the right one. One comment I would like to make is that the date on the stone is 1873, not 1878 - I have her death certificate to confirm this. The death certificate does have some conflicting information - it says she died on Nov 25, not Nov 16 as it says on the stone. However, the certificate also says her husband was William but this is wrong - the name Thomas on the stone is right. Perhaps as the certificate was filled in by her son-in-law with whom she had been living explains the error. Anyway, thanks again for your help. Best regards, Mike Brock
