The gravestone photographic resource project is an attempt to provide a much needed on-line resource for family historians.
The project aims to digitally photograph all UK grave monuments for people born before 1901 that are currently legible.
In some cases where the legibility is poor, names and dates may not be completely accurate.
The project has now been extended to include countries other than those within the United Kingdom.
There are now images from Australia, Canada and Cyprus.
The easiest way to make use of this site to find family members is to use the A to Z.
When you choose a particular letter, all the surnames starting with that letter referenced within the resource are displayed.
If you then click on the surname you are interested in, all the references to people with that surname that are held within the resource will then be displayed.
The A to Z is also very useful to check to see if there are any variations in the spelling of a surname.
If you are interested in a particular family surname then you can easily find all the entries for that name by using the find family references search box.
This search box is available on many pages within the website. Please note that the same person may appear on many different monuments.
For example, not only can a person be mentioned on their own grave monument but also on the monuments of their spouse, their children and even their grand children.
The website also has individual pages for each burial ground.
These pages list all the grave monuments that have been photographed and indexed by the project.
The easiest way to see all the cemeteries in a particular area is to use the area links on the home page.
