Then they went to Chertsey, SRY where he had already established his business as a Currier. They had 7 children who lived through adulthood and 2 infants who died young as seen on the headstone. Jacob Wilkins
husband of Mary WilkinsJacob WILKINS was born in 1767 at Kenn, Somerset, England, (son of Edmund WILKINS and Ann) and was buried in Chertsey, St. Peters, Surrey, England on 18 December 1824 aged 57 yrs. Emma WILKINS, his daughter, was buried in Chertsey, St. Peters, SRY, 16 Nov 1826 aged 7 years. His second wife Mary WILKINS nee WATERER was buried in Chertsey, St. Peters, SRY, 28 Jun 1836 aged 64 years. They were the only WILKINS in Chertsey St Peters.- listed on the NBI. Jacob WILKINS , currier of Chertsey, lived there from at least 1791 when he appears in a directory, until his death in December 1824. He must have established his business and home in Chertsey some time prior to his September 1791 Hutton, SOM marriage to Marey BISDEE, as he is recorded in the 1791 Universal Business Directory as Currier and Leathercutter, Chertsey, Surrey. So he could have gone to Surrey a year or two earlier, then returned to Somerset to marry his chosen bride. He had a large family most of whom are named in his will. Jacob's older brother John WILKINS b 1755 Kenn, was also a currier in Farnham. Jacob had 2 wives both named Mary and had children by both of them. His first wife Marey nee BISDEE died 1806. He married Mary WATERER on 16 Jul 1808 in Chertsey, just 3 months after she had a baby, which he acknowledges in his will. He states in the will that that child Eliza WILKINS was baptised in Weybridge. The 2nd wife died in 1836. Jacob had two sons the eldest of whom was Charles Barnes WILKINS. He too started as a currier and lived in Staines before heading to Saffron Walden, Essex where he was Mayor for two terms. He later went to Weston Super Mayor where he was also Mayor for many years and died at his home in 20 Royal Crescent, Bath. Charles became very wealthy and left several estates in the Gloucester area.
