F Charles Chilvers
War Memorial 1914-18 CHILVERS, FREDERICK CHARLES Rank: Private Service No: G/63494 Date of Death: 04/09/1918 Age: 19 Regiment/Service: The Queen's (Royal West Surrey Regiment) 10th Bn. Panel Reference Panel 14 to 17 and 162 to 162A. Memorial TYNE COT MEMORIAL Additional Information: Son of Maggie Ann Bailey (formerly Chilvers), of Tower End, Middleton, King's Lynn, Norfolk and the late Charles Daniel Chilvers Historical Information The Tyne Cot Memorial is one of four memorials to the missing in Belgian Flanders which cover the area known as the Ypres Salient. Broadly speaking, the Salient stretched from Langemarck in the north to the northern edge in Ploegsteert Wood in the south, but it varied in area and shape throughout the war. Go to Queens West Surrey Regiment 10th Battalion and follow links to War Diaries. There is an entry for 8/9 April 1918 showing 3 other ranks missing so this is a high probability, Frederick Chalres. I have othe information about his family if you are interested.

Reasons why the image for this memorial was requested

Charles was a cousin (his grandfather was 1 c.4 r.) and I would like to add this photo to my research on this Blackboro End family. They married into the READ family in 1828 who were also of Blackboro End. Geroge READ was my 3x gr grandfather I visited the area in the 1990s but didn't have time to do more than take photos of the village. Spent a lot of time in Norwich researching. What a beuatiful city and the library was marvelous. Thank you I have some lovely phtos of the WHITTOME family graves in Hilgay, Norfolk if these would b of any use to your project?
