Colonel Frank William Luard
1915 first name on monumentColonel Frank William Luard, M.I.D., Royal Marine Light Infantry, Portsmouth Div. R.N. Division, died on July 13th 1915 and rests in Grave II B 3 at the Skew Bridge Cemetery in Gallipoli. Frank earned the 1914 Star and bar with the War and Victory medals. He was commissioned a 2nd Lieut in the RMLI in1884; He took part in the defence of Antwerp during 1914, and was wounded at Anzac on May 3rd 1915. Frank was O/C Portsmouth btn. from Aug 27th 1914 until his death, and was twice MiD - London Gazette Aug 5th 1915 & Jan 28th 1916; He was born in January 1865, at Hatfield Peverel, the fourth son of the Rev. Bixby Garnham Luard, rector of Birch, and Clara Isabella Sandford, née Bramston, Luard, and was the husband of Eloise Beatrice (née Perkins) Luard, whom he had married on July 14th 1896, of Nashenden, Rochester, and was the father of two daughters. His 1914 Star was issued to his widow on June 24th 1919.
