Reasons why the image for this memorial was requested

Walter Kirton was my great uncle. I have a copy of the eulogy he gave at her gravesite which I would be willing to share. Walter and Isabella were married in Johannesburg, South Africa and when she became ill he brought her home to Gairlock to die. I have no knowledge as to why Belle was in Johannesburg, nor where they married. So far the family has found no records about this. His Quaker upbringing is evident in this eulogy. After her death he became one of the first members of the League of Frontiersmen, being a well know war correspondent. He was stationed mainly in China during the great famine (he wrote a book about it)and in Japan during the Russo-Japanese war and traveled all over the British Isles and the USA to give lectures about the state of the people in these countries and about the war situations. Walter remarried an American women in 1906. She traveled with him for many years until his retirement when he homesteaded in British East Africa (Kenya) as a coffee planter. She died in 1924. Walter died in 1937 in Nairobi, Kenya. No-one in the family had any idea where Isabelle was buried, and there are several Kirton cousins who would love to see this image. I am unable to help you in this geographical area because I live in Hamilton, Ontario in Canada, but I am willing to share photographs with others. I don't have a photo of Isabelle but many of Walter. Finding this information is quite thrilling. Thank you so much. Sincerely, Miriam Ruth Macdonald (nee Kirton) mirmacdonald@bell.net
