However in 1803 he joined a troop of actors and appeared the following year for the first time in a play by Schiller. Later he became a well-known performer in Germany France and England appearing in Shakesperean roles. His three nephews - Edward Charles-Auguste and Gustave - all became well-known Shakespearean actors.

Emil Heinrich du Bois-Reymond1818781896 Emil was a distinguished scientist physioogist and a pionneer of electro-physiology and became professor of physiology at the university of Berlin in 1858. An annual award named in his honour was created in 1999. His brother was the mathemitician Paul du Bois-Reymond.
Wilhemine Julie Françoise du Bois-Reymond1789751864 Born in the royal city of Potsdam Wilhemine was a member of one of the oldest and most respected French Hugenot families in Berlin. Her Polish Protestant grandfather was Daniel Chodowiecki the most popular Prussian painter and engraver of the 18th century and her father was the librarian of the royal library.

7du TitreMarie Anne du Titre1748791827id: BLNFRduTitre1637461311Marie Anne was the ninth of ten children of Benjamin George a wealthy Hugenot brewery owner and Sara Roberts. In 1781 she married Etienne du Titre one of the richest men in Berlin through his cotton business. They lived a sumptuous lifestyle and were amongst the leaders of Berlin society as friends of the king and acquaintances of the Goethe and the Romantic author E.T.A Hoffmann. Madame du Titre as she was known was renowned for speaking a curious mix of French and German which often gave rise to both confusion and some hilarity.

13RavenéPeter Louis Ravené1793681861no image1637471591Ravené was a rich industrialist of French Hugenot origins who inherited the family business from his well-established father Jacob Ravené (who was also buried in the cemetery but the tomb is now destroyed). Peter developed the family interests by investing in copper mines in Anhalt which supplied the new railways. With the resulting wealth he developed an important art collection which he displayed to the public and part of which now is displayed in the Bode Museum in Berlin. He was an adept of occultism and predicted - correctly - that he would died in 1861.

14SteffeckCarl Steffeck1818721890id: BLNFRCarlSteff1637391051Trained at the Berlin Academy of Arts and later in France and Italy Staffeck was principally an animal painter and watercolourist. His pupils included Max Lieberman.
