John Wormsley (or Wormesely, Wormley) born 1761 in Halifax - was a soldier in the 1st Horseguards (Royal Horse Guard) he was discharged aged 27 in 1788 having served 10 years 6 months - possibly discharged at Nottingham, though the barracks were not built there until 1792 and prior to that soldiers were billeted with local residents. He was possibly in Nottingham in 1783 dealing with a riot caused by the price paid for making hosiery (see extract from Nottingham Date Book). John became a weaver after discharge. John Womersley (groom of the Royal Regiment of Horse Guards aged 21) married Sarah PAGET (aged 21) by licence on 26 JUL 1783 in St Mary, Nottingham, Notts. They were living in Bottesford at least during 1787 - 1795. John remarried after Sarah died in 1822 - he married Catherine MOORE (widow) on 22 JUL 1828 in Great Gonerby, Lincs, England. Catherine was born 1766 / 1776 in Lincs and was buried 27 MAR 1865 (aged 99) in St Sebastian, Great Gonerby, Lincs, England. She was counted in a census 1841 in Great Gonerby, Lincs, England. John died at Great Gonerby 3rd November 1844 (aged 87) and was buried in St Sebastian, Great Gonerby, Lincs.
